- Organization
1.1 Ancient Ranger Tournament (ART): The Minnesota Senior Soccer League (MSSL) shall organize competitions under the Ancient Ranger Tournament title.
- Form of the Competition
2.1 Divisions: Recreational and Competitive in each division.
- Co-Ed 30+ (8v8)
- Women’s 30+ (8v8)
- Men’s 30+ (11v11)
- Men’s 40+ (11v11)
- Men’s 50+ (11v11)
- Men’s 60+ (8v8)
2.2 Entries: The number of entries in each division will determine the form of the competition. A four (4) team minimums are required in each division to hold a competition.
A team may only compete in one division. Players may play and compete in different divisions as long as they meet the age requirements and are listed on the original official team roster except in the case where there are different divisions in the same competition.
2.3 Entry Fees and Deadlines:
- 11v11 entry fee – $984
- 8v8 entry fee – $560
- Team registration closes August 24, 2025 5pm CST
- Final Player rosters due August 31, 2025 5pm CST
- Electronic payments only
- No refunds after August 9, 2024
2.4 Team & Player Eligibility: Any team is eligible to enter the ART so long as all team entry and player registration fees have been paid.
- Registered teams must submit a final roster no later than 5pm cst August 31, 2025.
- A player shall not play for more than one (1) team in the same age division. A player may be registered to play in a team in a different age division provided they meet the age requirement criteria for that age division.
- Players are required to check-in to verify identity and age prior to their team’s first scheduled match. Wristbands for each division will be assigned at the time of check-in. Players will not be allowed to compete without an appropriate wristband. Referees and tournament officials may require additional verification at any point during the competition.
- No walk-ups, all players must be registered and on a roster.
- Playing Rules
3.1 FIFA Laws: All games in a competition will follow the FIFA Laws of the Game in effect at the time of the competition with adjustments.
3.2 Field Dimensions:
- 11v11 divisions, Length of the field shall not be more than 120 yards, nor less than 100 yards and the width of the field shall not be more than 80 yards, nor less than 65 yards.
- 8v8 division, Length of the field shall not be more than 85 yards nor less than 70 yards, and the width of the field shall not be more than 60 yards nor less than 45 yards.
3.3 Game length:
- 11v11 – 35 minute halves + 5 minute half time.
- 8v8 – 30 minute halves + 5 minute half time.
- Knockout games tied at the end of regular time will go directly to PKs.
3.4 Markings: Fields shall be properly marked. A flag on a post not less than five (5) feet high & having a non –pointed top, shall be placed at each corner.
3.5 Substitutions: Unlimited and on the fly at the team side and at the half line.
3.6 Team Roster:
- Twenty (22) players for all 11v11 divisions.
- Sixteen (18) players for 8v8 divisions.
- All rostered players are eligible for each match.
- Rosters are locked on August 31, 2025.
3.7 Slide Tackles: Banned in all divisions except Men’s 30+ (11v11). Slide tackles shall result in yellow card caution.
3.8 Point System: Maximum allowable points per game are 10
- Win = 6 points
- Tie = 3 points
- Loss = 0 points
- Each team will receive 1 point for each goal up to a maximum of 3 and 1 for a shutout
- 0:0 tie will be counted as 4 points for each team (3 for tie, 1 for shut out)
- Yellow card = -1 point
- Red card = -3 points (player is suspended for the balance of the tournament)
3.9 Tie Breakers: The following sequence shall be used to break ties in the standings.
1. Head to head
2. Fair Play
3. Coin Toss
3.10 Protests: All games will be considered final, and no protests will be allowed.
3.11 Co-Ed: Gender equity for field players is required at all times.
3.12 Officials: 11v11 games shall have 3 officials, 8v8 shall have 1 official.
- Cautions and Ejections
4.1 Cautions: Yellow card accumulation. 3 yellow cards during the course of the tournament will result in a one game suspension.
4.2 Ejections: Any Player who receives a Red Card for violent conduct is suspended for the rest of the tournament and will be asked to leave the complex for the remainder of the tournament. A player who is ejected for a red card will automatically miss the team’s next game. Depending on the severity of the ejection the Tournament Director has the right to extend the suspension.
- Uniforms
5.1 Uniform Standards: All teams must have two jerseys each with clear, visible, unique numbers including goalkeepers. Players must maintain the same number throughout the duration of the tournament. Away team has to change if colors are similar.
- Forfeits
6.1 Ineligible Player: A team using an ineligible player shall forfeit the game to the opposing team and shall be expelled from the competition.
6.2 No Show: A team is considered a no-show and shall forfeit the game if they do not have 7 players (11v11) or 5 players (8v8) 5 minutes to scheduled kickoff.
6.3 Forfeit Points: 10 points will be awarded for opposing team
